![]() ![]() Weston Woods Studios produced a filmstrip and cassette tape version in 1970, which was later distributed on VHS and DVD. Scholastic records released an LP record of the story in 1968. The 1961 story ends with the boy's death by drowning, which was ironic because the parents had believed that giving children long names would cause them to live long lives. It is possible that a recorded 1941 version of a similar story (although avoided drowning) called "Long-Name-No-Can-Say" with a fat elder brother named "Nicki Nicki Tembo No So Rembo Oo Ma Moochi Gamma Gamma Goochi" was the first to change it to a Chinese setting.Ī similar story is told in the American folksong "(Eddie Kucha Kacha Kama Tosa Nara Tosa Noma) Sama Kama Wacky Brown" recorded in 1960 by the Brothers Four on their eponymous first album the title character "fell into the deep, dark well" and drowned.Ī story published in 1961 by Golden Press, called "The Little Boy With the Long Name", featured an older brother named "Sticky Sticky Stumbo Nos E Rumbo E Pro Pennyo Hara Bara Brisko Nicky Prom Po Nish No Mennyo Dumbricko". In 1924, the National Association of Junior Chautauquas published a book that contained a story by an anonymous author entitled "Tiki-Tiki-Tembo" the story concerned a boy "in old Japan" named "Tiki-tiki-tembo-no sa rembo-Hari bari broohski-Peri pen do-Hiki pon pom-Nichi no miano-Dom bori ko." Toward the end of the 1924 story, it is stated that after falling into the well, the title character "never grew up to be a fine Japanese man." A book published in 1968 (the same year as Tikki Tikki Tembo) reprinted the 1924 version of the story. The end of the story says that this is why the Chinese have short names. They get Tikki Tikki Tembo-no Sa Rembo-chari Bari Ruchi-pip Peri Pembo from the well, but because of the long time he was in the well, it takes longer for him to recover. After Chang breathlessly repeats his brother's predicament the Old Man goes with Chang to save his brother from the well. Further, when Chang tries to wake him up, the Old Man with the Ladder-annoyed-tries to fall back asleep. Initially, the old man does not respond because he is asleep. Chang goes to the Old Man with the Ladder. ![]() He tries repeatedly until finally his mother tells Chang to get the Old Man with the Ladder. His mother insists that he repeat the name-but with respect. However, because Chang is out of breath from running he sputters and then mispronounces the name. Chang runs to their mother and tries to tell her that "Tikki Tikki Tembo-no Sa Rembo-chari Bari Ruchi-pip Peri Pembo has fallen into the well." At first she cannot hear him so he says it again. Some time later, the boys are again playing near the well. Chang is rescued and then recovers quickly. Their mother tells him to get the Old Man with the Ladder. Chang falls in the well and his older brother runs to their mother and tells her Chang has fallen down the well. A boy named Tikki Tikki Tembo-no Sa Rembo-chari Bari Ruchi-pip Peri Pembo ("The Most Wonderful Thing in the Whole Wide World") and his little brother Chang ("Little or Nothing") are playing very close to a well at their house that their mother has warned them to avoid. Tikki Tikki Tembo is set in ancient China and invents an ancient Chinese custom whereby parents honor their first-born sons with long, elaborate names that everyone is obliged to say completely – no nicknames, no shortening of any kind – while second-born sons are typically given short, unimportant names. ![]() When cutting the poblano peppers, use a sharp knife on a cutting board.

Mexican-born progeny of Lebanese immigrants began opening their various restaurants. In the 1920s in the state of Puebla, lamb meat was replaced by pork. The Lebanese version, shawarma, was brought to Mexico in the late 19th and early 20th centuries by a wave of Lebanese immigrants, mainly Christians such as the Maronites who have no religious dietary restrictions on eating pork. History ĭuring the 19th century, variations of a vertically grilled meat dish, now known by several names, started to spread throughout the Ottoman Empire. Despite there being enough food, microorganisms will not be able to grow though if there is insufficient available water. Most foods contain plenty of molecules such as starches, proteins, and sugars that can serve as food for microorganisms to grow on. In order for microorganisms to grow and survive, they need a source of food and water. Others aren’t so good though, they spoil food or can even make us sick. They might help prove a bread dough, brew beer or create yogurt. Most microorganisms are harmless, or even good for us. Microorganisms, such as yeast, molds, and bacteria, grow all around us. Only ‘free’ water can participate in chemical reactions, migrate throughout the product, or be used by microorganisms! Drying sausage, thus lowering the water activity, helps extend its shelf life Water activity & micro organisms Water content describes how much water is physically present in a product whereas water activity describes how much if that water is ‘free’. Water activity is different than water content. For more details we discuss the theory of water activity in greater detail here. A product with no available water at all (virtually non-existent in food) has a water activity of zero. ![]() ![]() Pure water has a value of one, all water is available. The water activity is expressed in a value ranging from 0 to 1. The water activity of a food, often abbreviated with a w, is a measure for the amount of ‘available’ water in a food. That available water is described using the water activity and as such, water activity is a great predictor as to whether microorganisms will be able to spoil your food! Water, or more precisely, available water, plays a crucial role in each of these scenarios. ![]() You can imagine that a Haswell processor would help battery life, much like it has with most laptops we've seen. The Helix, in tablet mode using one battery, matched what the Revolve 810 provides in a larger form. The included six-cell battery is removable, but the ThinkPad Helix, similarly sized, had two batteries providing far better battery life (7 hours, 37 minutes). The included Core i3 and i5 processor options aren't part of the latest fourth-gen Haswell family of Intel processors. It still looks like IT department-issued equipment, but sports a clean-cut industrial profile. The Revolve is clearly a laptop that can pretend to be a tablet. The HP ElitePad 900 is an example of an Atom-powered tablet with laptoplike extras the EliteBook Revolve 810, on the other hand, is a more expensive, ultrabook-level performance device on par with the Surface Pro and a host of other laptops like the Yoga 11S and the ThinkPad Twist and Helix. It also happens to transform into a multitouch tablet, unlike other hybrids that are more like tablets that add separate keyboards to pretend to be laptops. The EliteBook Revolve isn't the Folio reborn, but it has a bit of that feel in a smaller 11.6-inch laptop. I remember the HP Folio 13 fondly: it was a compact business ultrabook that felt rock-solid and surprisingly comfortable. |
